Stoke-on-Trent School Admissions
The Admissions process is something every parent has to be familiar with when applying for a school. The admission process is made as simple as possible to ensure that every child is allocated a place fairly.
It is important that you take the time in making your preferred school choice so that you have the best chance of getting the right school for your child. Once you have filled in your form and sent it back your preferences will be recorded.
If a school is oversubscribed, a 'over subscription criteria' will be followed by the local authority to allocate places. Priority will be given in the following order:
- Children who are in public care (inc. children provided with accommodation under section 22 of the Children Act 1989)
- Children who have older brothers and sisters at the school at the time that that they will start.
- Children who live nearest to the school as determined by a straight line measurement from the front door of the child's home address to the main entrance of the school.
It is important to consider that some schools have their own admission criteria. This information can be found in the Secondary Schools brochure.
If you wish to discuss any further information about the admissions process or require support please contact the Choice Advisory Service.
